Have we got everything?

Roh likes having a job!

Once we got loaded up, the walk up into the property was pretty easy going. A gentle rise, sloping off to the Southeast. I decided to start with the upper corner and work my way across the upper border to come out at the church parking lot. No problem – I’ve been reading topo maps since I was twelve and besides, who gets turned around and lost, just a ten minute walk from Star Market?

Um, that would be yours truly.

Goodness, this place is HUGE! Where I ran into trouble was that the slope was so consistent it made landmarks hard to spot. We finally came out at the cellular tower, and walked back around on Tollgate and Randolph.

“So, Roh… how ’bout we start out downhill this time?”

Where we headed, Boss?

There is something about a big piece of land no one has built on before. You have your choice of building sites where you can’t even SEE the the edges.

Acres…

Later on, there will be design meetings and conference calls, gesturing and sketching. Sweeps of the arm where the driveway will be. But today, we Walk It.

Now, where’s that map? Okay, we’re right here at Five Points…
East, yeah…  (do I have enough diesel in the tank?) …then a right, and a quick left, go up to where the trees start. Simple enough.

What the.. eleven blocks? ELEVEN BLOCKS!?!
C’mon, Roh. Let’s walk.

Road Trip!

When my friends asked Roh and I to look over this piece of land, we loaded up the truck with provisions and snacks.

Maps, check.
Sextant, check
GPS-enabled flashing beacon with mylar balloon and tether, check.

We were ready for The Woods.
